42 Sport Cruiser Bottom Job

Updated: Aug 6, 2023

This was an unexpected project that came after having the bottom paint soda blasted off in the Fall of ’22. What I was left with was a badly cracked and pockmarked gelcoat. This was the result of many delaminations and voids just below the gelcoat and it spider cracked out from each one. My solution was to completely strip the gelcoat before epoxying. After many hours using a gelplane and sander I have the gelcoat stripped and the bottom is drying before I get back to it next spring.

It’s been mostly hours and hours of endless sanding and grinding so far. It’s just about ready to start laying fiberglass.
