This wasn't quite the direct swap it sounded like. First was dealing with the PCV issue, which I knew about ahead of time. For that I bought 2 transdapt 8deg wedge kits, then drilled a 7/16ths hole in the center so that it went into both the rear barrels, run a 1/4"npt tap and that was set. Also took the time to really clean out the PCV valves, which are the little steel barrels that actually hook to the carb. They could have made the studs for the wedge shorter as you could not tighten down the wedge without the studs hitting the top mount. The option here was to either drill out the holes above the manifold studs and use the adjacent studs for the carb, or the option I decided grind the studs shorter. There's a factory block off plate for the exhaust to warm the carburetor that I reused. From there the PCV hooked up just like factory, and the carb sat right on the wedge.
Another issue I didn't know about before I got the carbs is the moved the fuel inlet to the rear right side of the carb, and used 3/8ths line instead of the smaller line that was on there, probably 1/4. So I made new copper lines and put new fittings on the fuel pumps. There's not much room to work a wrench for those fittings either. I did remove 2 of the cooling hoses to allow me to route the new lines easier. Took 3 tries to get the first one bent up the way I wanted, the second engine I basically copied except to bend the line for the correct clocking of that fuel pump.
Had to wire the chokes, as they're electric. I hooked them to the ignition buss that's on the rear of the engines. The hang up that kept me in my slip for the weekend though was the Edelbrocks use a standard 5.125 flame arrestor, unknown to me the original Carters only use something like a 4.25 flame arrestor. The Edelbrocks are quite a bit larger than the Carters. So I had to order new flame arrestors. I went with 14 inch K&N's, the larger the flame arrestor quite down the throttle noise a bit. I just needed to make sure they will fit. I had 4 1/2 inches from the carb to the deck, which they did just fine. I did have to remove the lift ring from the thermostat housing. I also really like the look of the larger flame arrestors.
The engines fired right up with the carb settings out of the box, some minor idle adjustments and moved the accelerator pump adjustment and they were all good to go.
